In addition to the prohibition on intimate relations discussed here, this state of tumah (ritual impurity) imposes various halachos (see Vayikra 15:19-24) that are not applicable today.
This is false. The contamination laws alluded to apply today just as much as in any other era. The reason these laws are not the subject of everyday concern is because the contamination resulting from menstruation is mainly relevant for maintaining the dignity of sacramental food and sacred space. Most Jews today do not interact with sacramental food or visit sacred spaces, but if they were to do so these laws would certainly apply and it would be necessary to avoid desecration of such food or such space with menstrual pollution.
