Rabbi Akiva Joseph Schlesinger, a disciple of Rabbi Moses Sofer (the Chatam Sofer)
Schlesinger was actually a disciple of Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, the son of Moses Sofer. Schlesinger was a baby when Moses Sofer passed away so he did not have the opportunity to become his disciple. Kudos to  MISSISSIPPI FRED MACDOWELL for catching this error.

Moreh Nevukhim...The book, which was written in the twelfth century and first printed in the sixteenth, had not been reprinted for some two hundred years.
This ignores the Latin translation printed in Basel in 1629.

Some rabbis even upheld the fourteenth-century proscription against the study of philosophy
There is no such thing. The ban proclaimed by ibn Aderet and his colleagues was against studying Gentile philosophers such as Averroes under the age of 25. Jewish philosophers like Maimonides were explicitly exempted from the ban so its age-restriction is not relevant to infrequency of re-printing The Guide of the Perplexed.

An Essay Concerning Human Understanding by the English philosopher John Locke, existed at the time only in the original Latin.
1. This text was originally written in English, not Latin.
2. The essay was available at the time in both the original English and in translations into Latin and French.
